ADA — Main Street Live, a new live entertainment venue in Ada, will be celebrating Valentine's Day by holding an open mic comedy contest on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. Students are strongly encouraged to come out and tell their funniest stories about love and relationships. The crowd will decide whose stories are the funniest and the first place winner will receive $50 cash. Second place will receive $25. The event will be held at the venue at 115 S. Main St.

“We aren’t looking for professional stand-up comedian material,” says event coordinator and comedian Joe Deez. “We just want folks to have a good time talking about the ups - but mostly downs - of dating.”

Owner of Main Street Live Reggie Keller wants people to know that not only is it a chance to let out some frustrations on the loneliest day of the calendar year but “Somebody’s going to win fifty dollars. And the crowd decides, so make sure you bring your friends… but probably not your ex.”

For pretty much all of us, relationships are usually a mess. So why not celebrate the inevitable and earn a little spending money on the side? Anybody interested in signing up can do so either by emailing Joe Deez at or by going to the Main Street Live website at and fill out the form on the “Contact” page. You can sign up the night of the show but there will be a strict 8:15 p.m. deadline for signing up. Admission is $5 or $3 with a student ID. The winners will be chosen by crowd applause and will receive their cash prizes immediately following the show.
