LAFAYETTE — James Calvin “J.C.” Schafer, 77, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 5:40 a.m., at Burton’s Ridge Assisted Living, Lima. He was born on June 17, 1937, in Allen County, to Clayton and Margaret (Shrider) Schafer and they preceded him in death.

James retired from the Elida School District, where he was a long time teacher, coach and bus driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and attended many high school sporting events, especially supporting the Allen East Mustangs. He was a member of the local Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two brothers, Ron (Diane) Schafer, of Harrod, and Larry (Barbara) Schafer, of Baltimore, Maryland; four nephews and one niece, Brad (Vickie) Schafer, Bruce Schafer, Mike (Stephanie) Schafer, all of LaFayette, Curtis (Jamee) Schafer, of Maryland, and Christina (Deric) Ritchey, of Virginia; and nine great-nephews and great-nieces.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Robert Gibson officiating. Inurnment of ashes will follow in Desenberg Cemetery, LaFayette.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service from at 1 to 2 p.m., on Friday, July 11, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
