ADA — Janice L. Umphress, age 89, died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at 2:57 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1928 in Lima, to Lee and Rhoda (Hammer) Wingate who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1946 Janice married Maurice “Morrie” Umphress and he died on Aug. 7, 2010.

Janice was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ada and the Women’s Guild of the church. Janice was a 1945 graduate of Bluffton High School. She was a member of the Ada Senior citizens.

Janice is survived by her three daughters, Kay (Dan) Houx of Harrod, Rhonda (Boe) Sloan of Lima and Laura (Russ Swain) Umphress of Milford Center; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Logan and a sister, Thelma Balmer.

A public memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Rev. Patrick Allen officiating. Private family inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Friends may call two hours prior to the memorial service on Monday, Feb. 27, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ada and/or the Women’s Guild of the First Presbyterian Church.
