HARROD - Wilda "Jean" Swaney, 83, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at 11:32 a.m., in Kindred Hospital, Lima.
She was born in Allen County on Dec. 30, 1930, to the late Armond & Della Mae (Downing) Miller. On April 27, 1950, she marrried her husband of nearly 49 years, Charles Kenneth "Charlie" Swaney, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1999.
Jean was a graduate of Harrod High School. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, who enjoyed actively supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities. Jean was a proud member of the Harrod community, volunteering as an Allen County 4-H advisor for over 40 years and with the Allen County Visitors Center. She was a member of the Harrod Friends Group and Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Jean and her husband, Charlie, were blessed with six children, Bill (Sheree) Swaney, of Ostrander, Brenda (Milo) Wellington, of Wapakoneta, Mark (Sandy) Swaney, of Wapakoneta, Brian (Carol) Swaney, of Plain City, Joe (Shelly) Swaney, of Harrod, and Major Carlton Swaney, of Alexandria, Va.; 18 grandchildren, Michael Wellington, Lisa Wellington, Rob (Nicole) Rhoad, Scott (Kelly) Miller, Heather Johnston, Brett (Paige) Bilins, Beth (Kristen Keiffer) Swaney, Andrew Johnston, Allen Bilins, Jillian (Matt Wallace) Rhoad, Megan (Jeff) Viniard, Nathan Swaney, Tyler (Hayley) Swaney, Aaron (Sarah) Swaney, Addison Swaney, Emma Swaney, Jonathan Swaney, and Iris Swaney; five great-grandchildren, Timothy, Hope, Halle, Eli, and Kasen; a brother, Robert Earl Miller; in-laws, Ralph Swaney, Norman Swaney, Larry Swaney, John Swaney, Ruth Ogletree, Mary Jane Augsburger, Pauline Miller, Wava Mitchell, Judy Craig; and her best friend, Carl McDorman.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel, with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Burial was in West Newton Cemetery.
