I have been called a perfectionist a few, well many, times in my life. In high school I took it as a compliment from coaches and teachers, which was how they intended it. Life, however, is nothing like high school. The struggles and stressors that seem to ruin your entire world in high school are tiny bumps in the road of the real world.I used to think success meant that whatever goal I set out towards had to be met exactly when I wanted it met and on the path I had laid out. That if I didn't do it the "right" way it was a failure. What I have come to realize is that I succeed just by taking that first step and every step after that. Setting goals is easy. All it takes is a pen and paper, but working towards those goals takes blood, sweat and tears.
When you have a goal it means you seek change. Maybe it is financial or physical or emotional. No matter what type of change you want or need, it will always be difficult because it is easy to avoid changing, you don't have to do anything. To make a change you have to commit time, effort, and emotions into hard work for as long as it takes to reach your goal. Don't let the fear of failure keep you from taking the first step towards your goals. For example, if you need to lose weight, take the first step today and start a daily workout plan and eat healthy. What if it doesn't work? What if you end up skipping your workout and eating junk food? What if you fail? I say if you fail you succeed! Why? Because you took the first step! You tried! Tomorrow you will try again! It may take you a while to get on track, but that is ok. As long as you keep trying and keep taking steps towards your goal every failed attempt is a success! Be proud to fail, because when you get to a point where all you have is success you will look back and realize those failures were only stepping stones!
