RIDGEWAY — The visiting Ada softball team built a big lead and then held on to defeat county foe Ridgemont 6-4 Thursday in a non-league game.

The win upped the Lady Bulldog record to 6-1. The Lady Gophers fell to 6-5 with the defeat.

Ada led 3-0 early and built a 6-1 cushion on the strength of a three-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning. But Ridgemont rallied with three runs in the home half of the sixth to pull within two.

Junior southphaw Kaiti Newland pitched the last two innings in relief to save the win for classmate Maddie Gossard. She improved to 4-1 with five innings of four-hit, one-run pitching. Gossard struck out six and walked one.

Junior catcher Sydney Newland paced the nine-hit Ada offense with three singles, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Junior center fielder Teara Coulson collected two hits, a walk, scored a run and stole two bases for the Bulldogs. Kaiti Newland and Gossard each had a hit and a run batted in.

Junior shortstop Olivia Alexander scored two runs, had a hit and a walk, stole a base and also drove in a run. Nikki Lehsten singled, swiped a bag and scored once, while freshman Sidney Gossard added an RBI and a base on balls.

Kaiti Newland gave up three hits and two earned runs in two innings of relief. She struck out three and walked four. She pitched a scoreless seventh frame to preserve the victory.

The Bulldog girls are now 2-1 on the road and have won two straight games after suffering their lone loss at Allen East.

Ada out-hit Ridgemont 9-7, all singles. The Gophers recorded a double for the only extra base hit of the game.
