ADA - Columbus Grove broke open a close game with six runs in the fourth inning, and then added five more in the fifth to run-rule Ada 13-3 in a Northwest Conference softball contest Thursday evening.
The loss dropped Ada to 9-4 overall and 0-4 in the NWC. Grove improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the league with the win, placing them second behind only perennial power Crestview.
Grove pitcher Hope Schroeder hit a home run and hurled a five-hitter. Ada pitcher Ashley Sumner suffered her first loss in five decisions this spring. Six errors hurt the Ada cause, and they were out-hit 11-5.
Ada catcher Ashley Windle slammed a two-run home run, her third round-tripper of the week, to help Ada grab an early 3-1 lead. CG inched within 3-2 by plating a run in the third, then blew it open with 11 runs in the fourth and fifth frames.
Sumner, Alexis Gonzaga, Mackenzie Wills and Quinn High each singled to provide the other four Ada hits.
"It was a long night," said second-year Ada head coach Ken Jochims.
