COLUMBUS GROVE - Columbus Grove center Lynea Diller netted a short shot at the buzzer off an in-bounds pass from Rachel Schumacher to give the hosts a 44-43 win over visiting Ada Thursday night in a thrilling Northwest Conference season finale.
The visitors had taken a 43-42 lead when freshman Haley Wyss knocked down a three-point field goal with 15 seconds to go.
Grove was forced to call timeout with 1.3 seconds left when Ada’s trapping defense hemmed them in the corner.
But Diller broke open on the backside and scored from the left block to give Grove a comeback win on Senior Night.
Ada dropped to 8-12 and finished 3-5 in the NWC with the tough-luck defeat. CG improved to 13-8 overall and ended up 5-3 in the league.
Crestview repeated as league champion at 8-0.
Ada trailed by three after the opening stanza but rallied to grab a 25-21 edge at halftime. Yet Grove fought back to tie it 32-all heading to the seesaw fourth period.
Junior Tori Wyss led Ada with 11 points. Her three-pointer late in the third quarter gave Ada a 32-27 advantage, its biggest margin of the game.
Grove then scored the last five points of the quarter to set up the exciting finish.
Haley Wyss added eight markers and Sidney Faine added seven for the visitors. Ada shot 34 percent from the field and 83 percent from the charity stripe.
Grove, which committed 12 of its 13 turnovers in the first half, shot just 32 percent from the floor and 56 percent at the foul line.
