Guards pace Ada boys to first win

MT. CORY - Ada sophomore guards Brayden Sautter and Blake Willeke combined to score 39 points and lead the visiting Bulldogs to a 57-36 defeat of non-league local rival Cory-Rawson Saturday night.
The road victory lifted the Bulldog record to 1-2 while C-R dropped to 1-5.
Sautter poured in a career-high 23 points on the strength of five three-point goals. Willeke tallied 16 markers with the aid of three trifectas.
Bulldog junior Grant McBride contributed a dozen points, including a pair of triples. Ada knocked down 11 shots beyond the arc, while Cory hit six three-point goals.
Ada led just 15-13 after one period but a 16-7 second stanza stretched their lead to 31-20 at the half. The host Hornets rallied within 38-34 entering the final quarter behind a 14-7 run.
But the Bulldogs limited C-R to just two fourth quarter points to win going away.
Grant Risner paced Cory with 13 points.
Ada enjoyed its best shooting night of the season, canning 56 percent from the field (20-36) and they also hit on six of seven at the foul line (86 percent). The Hornets sank 14 of 24 of their floor shots (41 percent) and converted two of four at the charity stripe.
Both teams pulled down 22 rebounds. Levi Bass led Ada with five boards while Heath Risner snared nine caroms for C-R. The Bulldogs made just eight turnovers compared to six by the Hornets.

Ada next plays at non-league foe Kalida with all-time Ohio coaching wins leader Dick Kortokrax Friday, December 27.
The Bulldogs are in the midst of a six-game road swing. Their next league game is also the next home contest January 10 vs. Delphos Jefferson. Ada is 0-2 in Northwest Conference play after a 60-47 loss at Spencerville Friday night.
