PAULDING - Host Paulding scored the winning run in extra innings without getting the ball out of the infield to post a 7-6 victory over Ada in a see-saw Northwest Conference softball battle Tuesday night.
The tough loss dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 10-7 overall and 0-7 in NWC play. Paulding improved to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in league play with the unusual win.
The winning run scored with one out in the eighth on a passed ball.
Reinhart, who had five hits, led the bottom of the eighth off with a single for Paulding. She advanced to second on a passed ball, was bunted to third base and scored on an intentional walk pitch-out that the Paulding batter swung at and missed.
After the rare swing and miss on a pitch-out, the ball caromed to the backstop off the Ada catcher's foot and the winning run came home.
Sophomore Ashley Sumner knocked out two singles and drove in a run to help lead the seven-hit Bulldog offense. Tori Wyss doubled, singled and drove in a run. Ashley Windle contributed a double.
Paulding out-hit Ada 17-7 and both teams committed two errors. The Panthers plated four runs in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second for a 5-0 lead.
Ada clawed back with three runs in the third and one in the fourth. They then tied it 6-6 with a pair of runs in the sixth. Both teamws were scoreless in the seventh before the hosts won it in the first extra frame.
