Sumner, Bailey each split at district

TROY — Ada junior wrestlers Chase Sumner and Adam Bailey each won a match to make it to the second day of competition at the Div. III district event Friday in Troy's Hobart Arena.
Sumner (34-3 this season) won his first round match but lost in the quarterfinals of the double-elimination event.
After a quick first round pin over freshman Logan White (9-18) of Twin Valley South, Sumner faced a stiff test in round two vs. Kamron Paulus of Milton-Union, a senior boasting a 39-2 record.
In the quarterfinals Paulus beat Sumner in a close decision, 5-3. Sumner will now face junior Matt Hall (40-8) of Bethel-Tate in the consolation second round Saturday morning.
The loser will be eliminated, while the victor advances to the consolation quarterfinals against either Clayton Schirmer (38-8) or Brandon Lewis (14-14).
Sumner will have to make it to the consolation finals to advance to the state meet again. Only the top four finishers in a weight bracket qualify to go to Columbus.

Consolation second round: Sumner vs. Matt Hall (Bethel-Tate)
Bulldog junior Adam Bailey (16-16) wrestled in the 285 lb. division at Troy. Undefeated senior Cameron Coffman (42-0) of Dixie pinned Bailey in his first round match.
In the first consolation round against Robert Gross (8-14) of Fairbanks, Bailey pinned his foe to stay alive in the meet and advance to the second day of competition.
Bailey will face Joey Groeber (16-13) of Clermont Northeastern in the second consolation round Saturday morning. The loser will be eliminated while the winner advances to face either Brian Stears (37-4) of Williamsburg, or Jeffrey Ware of Versailles (30-14).

2nd round consolation: Bailey vs. Joey Groeber (Clermont NE)
Ada freshman Damien Cameron, a first alternate qualifier to the Troy district meet, lost his first two matches Friday in the 113 lb. class to be knocked out of the double-elimination event. He finished the season 19-13.

1st consolation: Devin Miller (Brookville) tech. fall Cameron 16-0
The second and final day of district competition resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday.
State competition begins Thursday, March 9 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
