Stuart Beatty, PharmD, ’03, appointed Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy dean
ADA,
Ohio - Ohio Northern University President Melissa J. Baumann, Ph.D.,
announced that Stuart Beatty, PharmD, BCACP, FAPhA, has been named the
next dean of ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy. Beatty, a 2003 ONU College
of Pharmacy alumnus who graduated with distinction, will succeed Steve
Martin, PharmD, BCPS, FCCP, FCCM, who has served as dean for almost nine
years and is retiring on June 30, 2023.
Beatty has nearly 20
years of experience serving patients, teaching students, authoring
papers, conducting research, and delivering presentations in the areas
of ambulatory care clinical practice and management. Most recently he
was professor of clinical pharmacy at The Ohio State University College
of Pharmacy. Beatty was the first pharmacist to practice within the OSU
General Internal Medicine clinics, where he developed pharmacy services,
educated medical residents and student pharmacists, and trained more
than 20 pharmacy residents at the site.
“We feel very fortunate to
welcome Dr. Beatty to our Ohio Northern University community, where our
College of Pharmacy has operated as a nationally-renowned legacy
program for 138 years,” says Julie Hurtig, Ph.D., provost and vice
president for academic affairs. “As someone who has a wealth of teaching
and managerial experience, a passion for pharmacy practice, and a
calling to serve patients, Dr. Beatty will provide visionary direction
to our exceptional students, faculty, and staff.”
Along with his
work in higher education, Beatty recently served as director of Strategy
and Practice Transformation at the Ohio Pharmacists Association;
president of the consulting firm Strategic Pharmacy Initiatives, LLC;
and founder of The Pharmacist Provider, an online training program for
pharmacists looking to start reimbursable services and maximize their
impact with patients. He is also a board-certified ambulatory care
pharmacist and a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association.
“I
am truly humbled and honored to be coming back to Ohio Northern
University to serve as the next Dean at the Raabe College of Pharmacy,”
says Beatty. “ONU has a strong history of producing pharmacists that
provide outstanding care to patients in their communities,
health-systems, and other practice settings. I look forward to leading
the College through the next phase of pharmacy transformation and
preparing our students to practice and advance the pharmacy profession
of the future.”
Beatty’s expertise includes all aspects of
ambulatory clinical and operational practice, including billing for
services, pharmacist involvement in the medical home, value-based
incentives, population health and outcomes, transitions of care
operations, and justification of pharmacists in team-based care. He has
also been leading Ohio’s provider status implementation efforts in
partnership with the Ohio Pharmacists Association. He has used his
experience in primary care transformation to engage with payors, health
systems, physician practices, and community-based-practitioner clients
to have pharmacists paid for clinical services in health-system,
federally qualified health center, and community settings. He has
written publications and given numerous presentations on the importance
of pharmacist-provided care aligning with clinical initiatives and
value-based payment models.
Current pharmacy dean, Steve Martin,
says he feels fortunate to have been a pharmacy educator at ONU for
nearly a decade. “The Raabe College of Pharmacy has had a long and
storied history, training many of this country’s pharmacy leaders, as
well as pharmacists who change peoples’ lives every day. I’ve been
blessed to be a small part of that history, and work with an amazing
group of faculty and staff who are dedicated to their students and the
profession,” says Martin. “I look forward to working with Dr. Beatty on a
successful and smooth transition.”
