DUNKIRK — A residential fire in the village of Dunkirk has claimed the life of a Hardin County man.

Greg Spearman, 44, died in a blaze that started at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning at a residence located in the village.

According to a press release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, dipsatchers recieved a call at 8:31 a.m. alerting them to a fire at 221 North Buckeye Street. At that time, he Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. On arrival, firefighters discovered  the rear of the residence ablaze. Given the magnitude of the fire, mutual aid was requested from the Forest, Kenton, Ada and Arlington Volunteer Fire Departments.

In the course of extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered Spearman’s body in the rear of the home.

As part of an investigation into the fire, the Hardin County Arson Investigation Team was called to the scene. The HCAIT, in conjunction with the Hardin County Coroner’s Office and the Dunkirk Fire Department, continues its investigation as of Wednesday morning, according HCSO Chief Deputy Dennis Burns.
