Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. My parents and siblings still live in Akron.

What brought you to this area? Or kept you here?

I moved here in 2012 when I was hired by ONU.

What is your occupation?

I am the University Chaplain at ONU. I coordinate religious life on campus, as well as community service opportunities for our students.

Why do you love what you do?

I love working with young people—I got my start in youth ministry, and I did my doctoral work on the spiritual formation of young adults. I feel like I get to make a difference in the lives of my students every day, and I love working alongside faculty and staff at ONU to make sure the students have a wonderful and enriching experience on campus.

What is your favorite thing about this community?

I love that the people of Ada are so friendly, but no one is “in your face” or “in your business.” Ada has the perfect combination of small town atmosphere with many of the amenities of a larger community. Also, I really love Ada parades, which go right past my house!

What are you involved within the community?

I am on the board of the ReStore Center, where I engage in helping with strategic planning for the ReStore’s present and future work. I am also the “Voice of the Ada High School Marching Band,” which means that I do the announcements for the band halftime shows at both home and away games. Both of my kids are members of the marching band.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love to read, so I always have a book or two underway. I also like to knit—I’m currently working on a sweater, but my favorite project is making mittens. As a family, we like to camp, hike, fish, and spend time outdoors. We are very interested in our Scottish heritage, so I have also recently taken up learning how to play the bagpipes!
