Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in Lima, OH and moved to Ada with my parents, Fred & Lisa Ferguson and brother, Adam Ferguson in 1978.

What brought you to this area? Or kept you here?

My dad, Fred Ferguson, was born and raised here. He was joining my grandparents at the family insurance agency. I grew up here and graduated from Ada in 1995. I started working at the family agency in 1996 although I lived in Kenton at the time. We had the opportunity to move back to Ada and live on the family farm where the office is located on Township Road 25 in 2005. We’ve been here ever since.

What is your occupation?

I am an insurance agent for Ferguson Insurance Agency. Our grandparents started the agency in 1956. I work here with my cousin, Laura Ferguson and uncle, Joe Ferguson. Laura and I are the 3rd generation of Fergusons to run it. We sell auto, home, farm, commercial, motorcycle, classic car, life and Medicare supplements.

My husband, Chad, and I have a small farm. We raise several types of livestock and grow some hay.

More important than that, I am a mom to 6 kids. Our two oldest daughters have graduated and moved away while the other 4 kids live at home and are homeschooled.

Why do you love what you do?

I enjoy helping people in whatever way I can. We are there at some difficult times in their lives when things are not going well and it’s nice to be able to offer some assurance that there is assistance. We are very compassionate and care a lot about our customers. We try to put ourselves in their shoes and help them to protect themselves the best they can. Most of the times when someone needs to use an insurance policy, it’s not typically been a good day. If we can be there for them and encourage them through it, we feel we’ve accomplished our mission.

What is your favorite thing about this community?

I know that small communities sometimes get a bad rap but our community seems to really invest itself in supporting its members. You feel the joys and pains of your neighbors and there is always somebody there willing to lend a hand if you’re willing to accept it.

What are you involved in within the community?

I am an advisor to a local 4-H club, Ada Barnyard Farmers. 4-H has been a big part of my life and I am amazed at the difference it can make in the lives of youth.

We volunteer as a family with Helping Hands for Hardin County at Christmas time.

We like to sponsor and serve a meal for Restore Community Center as a family and also as our 4-H club.

We have set up various petting farms, also as a family and as a 4-H club, at local events like the F & M Picnic, Harvest and Herb Festival, Immaculate Conception Festival and Ada Library Summer Reading Kickoff event, along with some other places outside of Hardin County.

We have had farm tours at our home for various Preschool and Kindergarten groups, along with Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, to help educate kids and share some experiences about livestock.

What are some of your hobbies?

My family! My family is my main hobby and seeing wherever their interests and journeys will lead us!

Other than that, I enjoy helping people. We have helped a lot of people get started with livestock and have helped them navigate some of the pitfalls that come with raising livestock.
