ALGER — Mary K. Preston, 88, of rural Alger, Ohio died at 2:28 p.m., Wednesday, Septemver 20, 2018, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, with her daughters at her side.

She was born July 5, 1930, in Hume, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence A. & Edna C. (Slusser) Clark, who preceded her in death. On July 15, 1951, she married Robert U. Preston, and he died April 2, 2013.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Eckinger, Bolivar, Ohio; Debra (Dick) Eley, Wapakoneta; and Cynthia (Larry) Underwood, Alger; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, & Jared Eckinger; Kelly (Tom) Nienberg, Lucas (Holli) Underwood, Robert (Michelle) Underwood; Matthew (Erika) Eley, Sarah (Kevin) Bill, and Brett Eley; great grandchildren, Jace Eckinger; Libby, Clara, Max, Jacob, and Landry Nienberg; Allison and Lane Underwood; Maddox, Macain, Macoy, and Langley Underwood; Kate, Henry, and Caroline Eley; Grace, Harrison & Annie Bill; a brother, Patrick (Penny) Clark,

brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Wava Clark, Sharon Preston, Shirley Preston, Marva Lou (Bob) Hooper, Sandra (Roger) Newfer, and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Naomi (Carl) Smith, Roger (Mae) Clark, James (Iris) Clark, Doris Miller Schneider, Marvin Miller, Arlie Schneider, Mildred (Charles) Alspaugh, and Don Clark. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Rosaline Preston, Bernard (Vida) Preston, Jerri (Charles) Kahler, Helen (Dennis) Hensel, Irvin Preston & Don Preston.

Mary was a homemaker and along with her husband Bob, owned and operated the McGuffey Hardware for 55 years. For the past 30 years, she lived on the Preston family farm. She was a graduate of Alger High School. Mary enjoyed gardening, pie baking, reading, hosting family holiday dinners, weekly lunches with her siblings, and spending time with her family.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mercy Health- St. Rita’s for the compassionate care Mary received while a patient there.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, 1102 Lincoln Ave. (St. Rt. 501), Wapakoneta. Burial followed in the Preston Cemetery, near Alger, Ohio.
