Pastor Donald Ray Engelhardt of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Alger, age 50, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, August 15, 2011, at Cedars Hospice of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born on January 28, 1961, and raised in Alger, by Karl Benton and Hazel Joanne (Ankerman) Engelhardt. His father is deceased, and his mother survives in Alger.

He was married to Charlaine Weyer for 29 years and she survives in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Other survivors include a son, Seth (Rebekah) Engelhardt of Akron, Ohio; two daughters: Lauren (Charlie) Simons of Austintown, Ohio, and Rachel (Brad) Kerstetter of Louisville, Ohio; three brothers: Curtis (Debra) Engelhardt of Alger, Fred (Paula) Engelhardt of Marietta, Ohio, and Charles (Paula) Engelhardt of Uniontown, Ohio; a sister, Claire Ann Harter of Alger; two granddaughters: Daphne Engelhardt, the daughter of Seth, and another granddaughter due in November; and a mother-in-law, Arlene Hopkins of Ada.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Engelhardt.

Pastor Don was a graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School in McGuffey, class of 1979. He then completed his Ceramic Engineering degree at Ohio State University in 1983. After a successful career as an engineer, God called him to become a Pastor. He earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay in 1999. He was pastor of the following churches in both Ohio and Pennsylvania: Bethel United Brethren in Elmore, Ohio; Hilltop Chapel in Massillion, Ohio; and Center Bethel Church of God in Alverton, Pennsylvania. His love for the Lord and love for people was evident to all until the very end.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at the Alger First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Arnie Kaufman and the Reverend Calvin Waugh officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17 at Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc., 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, Pennsylvania, with a brief service at 8 p.m.

Additional visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
