SPENCERVILLE — Host Spencerville got off to a big early lead and cruised to a 54-11 win over Ada in a Northwest Conference girls basketball game Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-17 overall and 0-6 in the NWC with the defeat, while the Lady Bearcats improved to 12-4 and 5-1 in league play with the win. Spencerville is tied for first in the NWC standings with Bluffton.

Spencerville raced to a 19-0 advantage after one period and led 32-2 at the half.




Sophomore guard Brenna George knocked down a fourth quarter three-point goal to pace Ada.

Alex Carter, a 6-4 senior post, led the Bearcats with 11 points. Junior teammate Nelaya Burden contributed 10 points and sophomore Emma Leis added eight.

The Bearcats sank 21 two-point goals, made two treys and converted six of 10 (60 percent) from the charity stripe. Ada canned five field goals including one trifecta, and missed all seven of their attempts from the foul line.

Ada visits scrappy county foe Ridgemont (8-8) in a non-league makeup game Monday, Feb. 4. The Lady Golden Gophers beat Perry 54-38 Thursday night. Ada split a pair of games with Perry this season, winning at home and losing on the road to the Commodores.
